Glossary of Terms

Essential terminology used throughout the Explayner studio: Director, Renderer, B-Roll, Cue, OPFS, and .explay.

Core Terminology

Familiarize yourself with the key concepts in Explayner:

Director: The AI service that plans structured scenes, narration, pacing, and visual layouts.
Renderer: The local browser engine that draws vectors, text, animations, and encodes the MP4.
Scene: A timed visual segment containing narration, text, diagrams, and animations.
Element: An individual visual object within a scene (shape, text, code block, ASCII art, image).
B-Roll: Full-screen graphic motion scenes that cut away from creator webcam footage.
Overlay: Creator video composited on top of generated graphics (PiP or split-screen).
SFX: Short audio effects assigned to scene entry animations (e.g. swoosh, click, typing).
Cue: A single timed subtitle segment.
Brand Kit: A reusable set of brand colors, gradients, and custom imported fonts.
OPFS: Origin Private File System; the fast, local browser storage where your projects live.
.explay: The complete, editable Explayner project archive file.
Re-render: Re-encode current scenes with manual canvas edits without calling AI generation again.
Generate again: Ask the AI director for a brand-new scene plan and visual composition.
